Okay, gamers, let's have a talk. No trash talk, no avatars — just gamer to gamer.

It's easy to get cynical in the constant hype cycle of modern gaming, but we all have a few game franchises that cut through that cynicism and turn you into a die-hard fan. Gears of War is one of those franchises for me. Sure, Gears of War is big on action, blood, guts, and curb stomps, but underneath all that is a ton of feels.  If you try to claim that Dom's story didn't make you cry just a little, I'm not sure I can trust you!

What keeps bringing fans like me back to this franchise is the bravery, friendship, and teamwork that is the emotional core of Delta Squad.  We all have our favorite character and moment; mine is the Cole Train and his glory days flashback in Gears of War 3.  Also, every moment with Cole and Baird — those guys are hilarious.

With a new generation of characters being unveiled in Gears of War 4, I'm sure you guys have just as many questions and fan theories as I do, and the lead-up to launch can be agonizing.  What are those new monsters?  How will Marcus's and JD's father-son relationship develop?  How does Kait keep that knit hat on her head when it gets covered in locust blood? (These things are important!) It's a long wait until October 11, when Gears of War 4 is unleashed on the world.

What keeps bringing fans back to this franchise is the bravery, friendship, and teamwork that is the emotional core of Delta Squad

Until that fateful day, there is one way for fans to rally around the big release: Let's talk about a social media challenge that lets us Gears fans literally bleed for the game. (Seriously, one of the challenges is donating blood — I told you it was hardcore.)

If you're a die-hard of a fan, form your squad by following #GearsSquadGoalsContest. If you're new to the Gears of War franchise, this is a great way to meet squad mates and experience Gears' community comradery, or the perfect excuse to rally the old squad and get prepped for battle. After all, the Gears of War 4 motto is "Never Fight Alone."

So start forming your squad today.  Complete challenges with your friends to show that Canada has some of the biggest Gears of War fans on the planet. (After all, this game was made in Vancouver, BC.)  Post proof that you've responded to the #GearsSquadGoalsContest challenges on Instagram and Twitter and you're automatically entered for a chance to land your squad (you and three friends) in Austin, Texas, to see Run The Jewels live in concert, or in London, UK, to attend the International eSports Tournament. Two secondary winners will also receive a Gears of War 4 Xbox One bundle.  The more challenges you complete, the better your chances of winning. And there's more surprises coming from the Xbox team.

Head over to xbox.com for more details and full rules and regulations in English and French. The contest closes October 10, and winners will be announced on October 17.  But you'll be playing the game by then, so you may not notice.

The other great thing about this contest is that a lot of the challenges are things gamers do anyway.  Play with your friends on Twitch?  That's a challenge.  Speedrun an entire game in one sitting?  That's a challenge too!  Post a picture of your Xbox setup?  I mean, who hasn't done that at least once? Sure, some of them are brand-new —  the haircut and theme song challenges are not things I've done, at least not to post publicly — but there had to be some challenge to being a completionist, right?

See you on the front line, Delta Squad!
