Modern Apizza
We’re from Chicago, so we definitely know our way around a pizza. If you’re looking to stick with a classic New Haven-style pizza, try the delicious Clams Casino, a Modern Apizza specialty featuring clams, bacons, and peppers.
Stowe's Seafood
Any time we’re on a coast, we make it a point to eat our weight in seafood — and New Haven was no exception. Stowe’s is a kitschy little seafood shack that’s been there for almost a hundred years. The lobster rolls were so good that they disappeared in seconds.
Maison Mathis
This bright, roomy breakfast spot was the best way to start our days in New Haven; we especially loved their fresh-pressed juices.
Ordinary
Ordinary is located inside a historic hotel, so we think it could be haunted. The atmosphere, beer list, and cocktails were awesome, but it was the friendly staff that really won our hearts.
Atticus Bookstore and Cafe
Atticus is a combination café and bookstore, so you can easily spend your entire afternoon there. We ordered the hummus plate, which exceeded our expectations and forever changed the hummus game for us.
OEC Brewing
OEC is one of the most unique breweries we’ve ever visited. It’s got some of the wildest brewing equipment, including a koelschip, various barrels, amphorae, and even a salero system. Nerdy stuff aside, the brews they make are equally delicious and creative.
Louis' Lunch
An iconic New Haven spot, Louis’ Lunch has the distinct honor of claiming to be the birthplace of the cheeseburger. First cheeseburger or not, it was delicious and a much needed late-night stop.
The Owl Shop
Walking into this old school cigar shop and bar feels like stepping back in time. With its outdoor patio overlooking College Street and the New Haven Green, Owl Shop is an ideal place to enjoy a cigar and a nice glass of Bourbon County Stout.
