Because Fort Lauderdale doesn’t have seasons, we rely on other cues to know the winter is coming: The exuberant display of holiday lights adorning the homes, shopping districts, and especially the boats. The people in party clothes, whether that means Santa hats and sparkly flip-flops, or cocktail dresses and Uber shoes. The swing from summer flavors to winter drinks is subtle. Rum, thought in other parts to be a summer drink, never goes out of season — chalk it up to the Latin influence or the fact that thousands of people are always en route to a Caribbean cruise. In the lead-up to Christmas and the winter season, people might drink it in coquito (Puerto Rican coconut eggnog) or punch instead of a pina colada, but there will always be a mojito on every menu.

Want more festive cheer? You’ll even find exclusive BACARDÍ cocktails, available just for the season, at some of your favorite local bars. Here’s where to go.

There comes a time in every vacation away where you seek out a downright dive bar. You say, “No, I don’t want a signature cocktail, and I don’t want to think about what my hair looks like, and yes I’m ready to act a fool when the right song comes on.” Hopefully this will lead to some of the finest hours of your winter — drinking cheap drinks and eating wings and playing whatever bar games are available. Blondies not only understands this universal vacation imperative, they cater to it with a 10-hour happy hour from noon to 10 p.m., every day — no wonder it’s a Fort Lauderdale institution.

With polished accents, snug booths for two, and books piled neatly on shelves as if to say, “Never mind ESPN playing on a dozen screens — we read here!” this is a friendly and comfortable place to duck into for a drink. Inside, brick walls and leather booths encircle a lively bar. The rotating craft beer selection is sure to include some seasonal selections, and the $10 sampler allows you to try any four that catch your eye. They’ve also got a respectable cocktail game (order up a Strawberry Mojito) and daily happy hour.  Southern influences take the typical American gastropub grub up a few notches.

Where better for a yo-ho-ho (or a fa-la-la-la) and bottle of rum — or a Mermaid Mojito made with BACARDÍ  Superior Rum — than a shipwreck-themed bar featuring naughty mermaid shows? The Wreck Bar is the signature watering hole of the B Ocean Resort, and a clever aesthetic fit into the overall property design: The bright turquoise water views and white multilevel exterior of the resort looks like an ocean liner. The pirate bar is low-lit and feels quite a bit like a cruise lounge. Drink a Dark ‘n Stormy and talk like a pirate with your friends, then head out to a nice dinner or a quick dip.

The BACARDÍ-exclusive cocktail to order: the Merry Mermaid

Looking for a tiki cocktail served with a side of seasonal cheer? Order up the Merry Mermaid, made with BACARDÍ Superior Rum, overproof rum, fresh lime and grapefruit juices, falernum, grenadine, and Angostura bitters.

The buffed and highlighted masses of Las Olas believe every day is worth dressing up and going out — and this bougie burger joint absolutely supports that. The menu is gourmet burgers and party food: Think lobster guac, ahi tacos, duck burger with foie gras, and popcorn-style cauliflower florets. Or you can go big with a foot-long hot dog topped with lobster and drizzled in truffle oil with Parmesan fries on the side. Wash it down with the Burnt Orange and Pomegranate Daiquiri, made with BACARDÍ Superior Rum and a pomegranate and orange reduction.

This bar feels oddly more like it’s set in a beach town on Cape Cod than in the trendiest strip of Fort Lauderdale. The vibe is stars-and-stripes coastal shabby chic in a low ceilinged space that looks comfortably worn. Everything’s an excuse for a drink or food special: weekend brunch, FSU football, Fight Night, Mondays, and the entire month of January. Order the perfectly in-season mojito, the Honeybell Mojito — it’s got winter citrus, mint, BACARDÍ Superior Rum, and a splash of Aperol.

Every fruity frozen rum drink you ever wanted out of a beach holiday is available on Two Georges’ menu, plus some you may not remember. Let us remind you: Miami Vice, Rum Runner, Dirty Banana, Bahama Mama, and the way subtle Monkey Punch with BACARDÍ Orange Rum. No, it’s not a rule that when you’re dockside dining in December and it’s 80 degrees you must drink rum and eat seafood — but what’s the better option?

Note that this is a prime viewing area for the annual Boat Parade, but it’s first come first served. Late arrivals might not even get standing room — seriously, the place gets that packed even during a typical Friday evening happy hour.

Now that it’s fully up and running, including the beachy “back yard,” we expect a festive winter season. Whether you want to cozy up to the bar’s fireplace with a Floridita Daiquiri made with BACARDÍ Superior Rum, or enjoy the tropical Florida winter on the patio with a Mojito, you’ve got your go-to spot for the month of December.

The burgers, chili, and Key Lime pie at this bizarro saloon on the sand are great enough to merit a visit from the Oprah Winfrey Show — or maybe it was the insane décor that earned producers’ attention. Certainly it grabs the attention of people cruising down the Intracoastal on a motor yacht (er, water taxi). The aesthetic is that rare style you could call “seventies garage sale meets HS drama department 10-year cleanout meets seedy tiki.” The key elements are overgrown tropical plants, brightly painted signage, and a huge collection of salvaged bathroom appliances turned into potting containers. It’s an extremely bold move to decorate a restaurant with toilets (and the namesake tub), but what with the reliably good food, strong drinks, and waterfront locale, it works. Pair their wold-famous burger with a BACARDÍ Superior Rum-spiked cola — or one of their signature frozen drinks, like the Pina Colada — and enjoy.
