1. Mezcalito's Cocina & Tequila Bar

304 Oakland Ave SE
Atlanta, GA 30312

Visit Website

A Grant Park staple, Mezcalito’s has some of the best margaritas in town thanks to using freshly squeezed limes and lemons in lieu of a mix and premium tequilas like Cazadores. While their traditional margarita is great, they also have fun spins on the drink like the Georgia Peach margarita. Or, if you prefer to sip tequila straight, they offer tasting flights. Their tacos are served on flour tortillas and come in tasty options like the slightly sweet pork pibil and the grilled shrimp with red pepper sauce. The space inside is lovely, with plenty of eye-catching art, but the patio is also inviting.

2. Agavero Cantina - West Midtown

C, 1133, Huff Rd NW
Atlanta, GA 30318
(404) 464-5250
Visit Website

Agavero is warm and approachable whether you’re going with friends or family. The tacos are classic with fillings like shredded chicken, grilled shrimp, and steak, and if you’re a crispy shell fanatic, this is the place for you. The shells are stuffed and give way to the most satisfying crunch when you sink your teeth in. Don’t forget to make your tacos “supreme” for a small up-charge, which tops them off with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheese. Margarita options include Texas, watermelon, mango, hibiscus, and blueberry, served on the rocks or frozen — bottom’s up!

3. Patria Cocina

1039 Grant St SE
Atlanta, GA 30315
(404) 622-3501
Visit Website

Patria Cocina recently opened in Grant Park’s Beacon development. The space is modern and slightly industrial but warmed up by traditional touches like the tiled bar. Similarly, the flavors are bright and fresh, and a total treat for the palate. Start with a salsa trio, a combination of roasted tomatillo, charred tomato, and pineapple salsas, before moving on to their tacos. The avocado taco, with fried avocado, cabbage salad, pineapple salsa, and chipotle aioli on a corn tortilla, is particularly good. If you prefer, they also have a customizable taco option with a variety of proteins on a soft or crispy shell. Quell those spices with one of their fruity margaritas like the guava mint or guanabana with Cazadores Blanco.

4. Babalu Tapas & Tacos - Atlanta Midtown

Babalu checks all the boxes: huge restaurant, ample patio, in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from the Midtown MARTA station, and delicious food and drinks. Belly up to their outdoor bar and start with the guacamole; it’s prepared tableside with the option to add jalapeños and bacon (yes, you read that right). The tacos are snackable, making it easy to try a few different ones. The chorizo with poblano salsa and shrimp with comeback sauce are standouts. You can swap out the house-made tortillas with lettuce cups if you’re watching those carbs. These tacos are great any day of the week, but on Tuesday they’re only $2 each. Wash it all down with one of their many margaritas made with fresh juices.

Hacienda means “estate” in Spanish, so it’s fitting that this Midtown restaurant resembles a grand Mexican home. Dark wood beams, elegant chandeliers, and colorful art (including several Frida Kahlo portraits) create an atmosphere that’s warm and inviting. Come in, relax, order a taco trio — the tacos with homemade chorizo are especially delicious, and there’s tofu for the vegetarians in the crowd — and throw back a Texas margarita for an ideal Tuesday night out.

7. Tin Lizzy's Cantina

Tin Lizzy’s Cantina is an Atlanta institution with several locations (they’re all great, but the one in Grant Park has a rooftop patio with city views). Their tacos are sure to please, whichever location you choose. There are more than 15 options, which can be a little daunting, but there’s no incorrect choice. Some of the latest additions to the menu — like the Korean BBQ-inspired taco with a choice of slow-cooked pork or grilled shrimp — sound especially delicious. As does the Lobster Roll served Cape Cod style with Baja slaw, romaine cilantro, and lime crema. Even better: Tacos are $2 after 2 p.m. on Tuesdays. If you’re thirsty, the Texas margarita is the ultimate refresher with Cazadores Reposado, Grand Marnier, citrus, and orange juice.

If that’s too adventurous for you, don’t worry, there’s also grilled steak and chicken, and they’re just as delicious. Level up and order your tacos on the house-made tortillas for a bit of an up-charge. The margaritas also have a reputation for being strong and affordable, so come thirsty.

No trip to Athens is complete without a stop at Cali N Tito’s. This is the second outpost, but it’s larger and sells booze. Like the original spot, the decor is eclectic — think mermaids and stars hanging from the ceiling and a courtyard fountain in the middle of the restaurant — and it’s impossible not to have fun. When it comes to the tacos, the fish tacos get the most talk with crispy tilapia, cabbage, and a spicy chipotle mayo. Pair it with a frozen mango margarita and you’ll have won Taco Tuesday.
