For Kathleen O’Brien Price, food is a way of sharing her unique heritage with others. Kathleen is half Irish and half African-American, and her cooking style is a culinary mashup of the two cultures. Kathleen partnered with Vox Creative and Guinness to create a yam dish inspired by the flavors of Guinness Extra Stout.
Guinness Extra Stout provides the perfect base for a rich caramel sauce, thanks to its bittersweet finish that cuts through the sweet notes of the yams and creates a balanced flavor profile.

Candied Yams With Guinness Extra Stout Caramel
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Melt the butter over medium heat in a saucepan. Add the sugar, Guinness Extra Stout, and orange juice.
Stir until the mixture begins to caramelize. Add the vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, and lemon zest.
Place yams in an oven-safe dish and pour in caramel sauce, coating the yams evenly.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake until yams are golden brown and soft, about 45 minutes.
Optional: Garnish with pumpkin seeds, chopped pecans, or dried cranberries before serving.
